How many corporate events wedding receptions private parties have you been to where the setting, food and speeches have all been fantastic…and then the Mobile Disco DJ starts to play and suddenly the atmosphere dies? Within half an hour everyone is chatting at the bar and the party is all but over.
On your special day you need a guarantee that not only will this not happen at your reception but that the DJ you choose will be one of the talking points of the day for years to come. Your wedding day is without question one of the most important days of your life. Everything from
the ceremony to the food and reception has got to be perfect. Your wedding DJ is no exception… it has got to be perfect, and quite often the DJ Mobile Disco you choose can be the difference between “an amazing wedding” and just “an average one”.
Deciding between hundreds of Mobile DJs , budgets, styles of music, set lists, types of Mobile Disco DJ that are going to appeal to everyone’s tastes…….can be very confusing.
Here are some tips from one professional DJ help you make sure you get it right.
1. Get the budget right
A lot of couples start by booking the wedding dress/suits, venue, catering, flowers etc. and then allot the remaining budget to hiring a band or mobile Disco . With a wedding mobile Discos it is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. a good disco is not a cheaper alternative to a live band remember an good disco can play all of the original songs as well as providing a light show for the evenings reception. If your budget is under £350.00 then our advice would be quite simple; DO NOT bother having a DJ. Spend the money on a Duke Box you can hire these now for £220 00 . A Mobile Disco that cost £250, cost that for a reason.........because they are not very good. and cannot command a larger fee. or do not have the experience or disco equipment to perform at a hire level.
2 . Ask for recommendations
Word of mouth recommendations from family and friends who have used a good mobile Disco or seen a good disco perform at previous functions are always a good way of starting the whole process off. Send a block e-mail to all your family and friends for wedding party mobile discos recommendations. Just make sure you trust their musical taste and judgement! From your initial research try to find out as much as possible about the mobile disco, and if you book through an agent what DJ and disco equipment is going to be used.
3. Listen to the Mobile Disco before you book
A lot of top Mobile Discos play at weddings & corporate events so it is hard for you to see them perform. But a good mobile Disco DJ or agency should be able to provide you with Photos of DJ and disco equipment being used or video of them in action . On the better web sites you can see DJs and disco equipment as well . as providing you with up to date testimonials and photos.
4. Look at the mobile discos experience
Check out the mobile discos experience and music preference, give the mobile disco 30 to 50 of your preferred music tracks make sure that the style of music is what you are looking for. All of the top mobile discos should be experts at getting a crowd of mixed ages on the dance floor, but some will be House R&B Garage based, some old school 60`s 70`s 80s disco party based choose a mobile disco that suits your needs. It is also a good idea to highlight songs that you really do and do not want played at the reception. but do not take over by giving the Dj 200 and more requests remember your guests will be asking for requests to be played during the evening .
5. Use a reputable Mobile Disco or Agency for your booking
If you book directly with a single mobile disco it often means that you have little come back if something goes wrong or you need to find a last minute replacement if your mobile disco lets you down or has been paid more to attend someone else's function. A reputable mobile Disco or agency will have a good web site, be fully contracted, have up to date testimonials for the DJs and generally put your mind at ease over all the logistics. They will have been through the process thousands of times before and know all the necessary logistical arrangements and pitfalls in arranging the music you want.
6. Get special requests in early
If you have a first song request or some favorite songs you would like played on the day make sure you let the mobile Disco DJ or agency know as soon as possible. All good mobile discos will accommodate requests if given enough warning. If you intend to use the mobile discos own sound system during the speeches make sure you request that from the mobile disco and agency. Quite often there is a small early set-up fee for this service.
7. Ask your venue these questions early on in your planning
Do they need PAT electrical certificates from the DJ?
Does the mobile disco need to have public liability insurance?
Do they use noise limiters? If they do and the settings are very low it is often not worth having a Disco. go for the duke box!!
Do they have a microphone and sound system that you can use during the speeches?
Is there a stage for the Mobile Disco?
What time does the wedding party music have to finish?
These issues can cause real problems if they are discovered wanting late on in your planning.
9. Pass on important information to the Mobile Disco Agency
As soon as you can, let the DJ agent have; Directions to the venue,
Your days timings (mobile discos arrival times, set-up, sound check, when you want the first dance played , time of evenings buffet cutting of cake and finishing deadline). Most mobile discos charge extra for an early set-up time, so it is best to try and clear a 1½ hour period as close to 6pm as possible for the mobile discos Dj to arrive, set up and sound check.
Put the best man/usher in charge of dealing with/paying the DJ on the day and give the mobile disco DJ /agent his contact details.
all fees should be paid at the beginning of the evening.
10. Book early
Book the Mobile Disco DJ as early as possible. The most sought after mobile discos usually get booked up months in advance, especially over the busiest summer and Christmas months. Generally you confirm the booking by paying a deposit on the mobile disco you choose. You should then receive a contract and confirmation on the deposit payment.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST......................
Enjoy your special day!
